The Fifth Toy Story Film Trailer Pits The Beloved Duo Versus a Digital Device

Exactly 30 years after the original Toy Story movie was released, establishing Pixar as a major animation studio and introducing viewers to iconic characters like Woody (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now household names.

Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed recently, providing a brief look into the storyline but keeping viewers wondering how it will resolve the conclusion of Toy Story 4.

The Latest Addition: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Spooks the Gang

The preview shows Bonnie — who inherited the toy collection when he grew up — receiving a latest toy, one that terrifies Woody, Buzz, and the crew. Bonnie gets her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.

Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the characters seem to view it as a threat intending to supplant them, which it likely will.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

One thing the trailer doesn't touch on is what Woody is returned with his friends in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 depicted him set off on a fresh journey with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), journeying with a fair and helping prize toys locate loving owners.

Surely, Pixar will address the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Witnessing him show up in Bonnie's room without warning is a little strange, however. It also raises questions whether his partner will have returned with Woody. And what about Duke Caboom (the star)?

Continuity from the Last Installment

Fortunately, some elements are continuing from the prior film. The last thing the cowboy did before departing for his fresh path was pass his symbol of authority to Jessie (the voice actor), leaving her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. In the teaser displays the insignia attached to her outfit.

Hopefully she is remains the driving force among the group.

Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on June 19, 2026.
